Rise Behavioral Health

Rise Behavioral Health is mental health and substance use agency located in Portsmouth, Virginia. The private practice was established in 2016 and provided community-based mental health services including mental health skill-building for adults and intensive in-home services for children. Due to the pandemic, the agency transitioned to outpatient counseling services only. The agency currently provides virtual counseling and assessment services.

Mission

The mission of the agency is to provide quality services to increase mental health and behavioral wellness through service, education, and advocacy. The agency identifies its target client as an African American (male or female), between the age of 25 and 45, who makes less than $40,000, and has a history of trauma or trauma exposure. The mission of the agency was developed as a response to what the target client needs. One goal of the agency is to educate each client on the process of counseling, due to the target client’s cultural background and history of having low rates of mental health service use.

Strength in Representation

The agency is a small business who is able to provide a very personable service that a larger agency may not be able to do. Clinicians go above and beyond to assist and educate clients who may not be familiar with virtual services or counseling services in general.

The agency can assist clients who require interpersonal supports  needed for the target client and population. An area of need for the agency is the lack of visibility.  During  the pandemic, the agency focused more on the current clients and assisting clients who were discharged out of the community-based program.

The  community liason role addresses a need to connect with the community in a purposeful, intentional way.
